Office Unit with Wall Shelving:
Sometimes good lighting of my work isn’t always available and this was a rather dim corner of a loft space being used as a home office.
However, my brief was to create a shallow storage unit for office materials and above a rustic shelving solution in keeping with other fixtures in the room. This was also to be a semi-permanent installation on a modest budget should the adjacent sealed doorway ever need to be reopened, this feature could be removed easily with no more than a few fixing holes to repair and paint over…..and this is what I came up with.
I built an MR-MDF base unit with timber lipping mounted on a shallow plinth with three adjustable shelves and a set of shallow drawers with filler strips and end panel scribed to the wall….primed and sprayed with a white eggshell finish. For the upper shelves (and counter top) I used 30mm pine boards and created an off-set design, supported and secured to the wall using a metal shelving support system….all lightly stained followed by a rustic brown wax finish.
